Minister for Higher Education P.Palaniappan visited the Anna Science Centre Planetarium on Thursday and discussed development projects with officials there.
Accompanied by Tiruchi East MLA R. Manoharan, the Minister inspected the facilities, including the environment gallery and Sun Clock. They were apprised about the utility of the Planetarium to the student community by the Project Director of the Planetarium T.M.Alagirisamy Raju.
During his visit to the Bharathidasan University Constituent College at Inamkulathur in Srirangam Constituency, the Higher Education Minister dedicated N-LIST (National Library and Information Services for Scholarly Content) programme at the college for students and faculties.
The facility has made possible access to 70,000 e-books and 3,000 e-journals by the faculty and students.
The contents cover curricula and syllabi of all branches of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by colleges and universities.
The college inaugurated by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during July offers four programmes: B.A. English Literature, B.Sc. Mathematics, B.Sc. Computer Science, and B.Com.
Mr.Palaniappan also demonstrated the approach for using lecture notes and multimedia classroom presentations through open course materials for teaching-learning to students through various course material sites such as NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) and World Lecture Hall.
He advocated periodic training programmes for students on accessing open courseware.
The Vice-Chancellor K.Meena said the facilities will be extended to other constituent colleges shortly.
He was accompanied by R.Kannan, Secretary, Higher Education, E.Balagurusamy, Member, Planning Commission, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Collector Jayashree Muralidharan.
