Memorials for Perumbidugu Mutherayar, Sir A.T. Paneerselvam and M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar will come up near Central Bus Stand in Tiruchi soon.

The State government had announced in the Assembly that memorials (mani mandapams) will be built in Tiruchi for the three personalities. Accordingly, a 2.11 acre site has been identified between Central Bus Stand and Periya Milaguparai, close to K.A.P.Viswanatham Government Medical College.

The mani mandapam for ‘Perasar’ Perumbidigu Mutherayar will be built at a cost of ₹1 crore. It will include a library and a statue of Mutherayar.

The other two memorials will be built adjacent to this, each at a cost of ₹50 lakh. Sir A.T.Paneerselvam was considered the pillar of the Justice Party, while M.K.Thyagaraja Bhagavathar was a famous actor and singer.

State Ministers Vellamandi N. Natarajan and S.Valarmathi, accompanied by Collector S.Sivarasu, inspected the site identified for the memorials on Thursday.

According to officials, tenders for construction of the memorials will be called soon and they are likely to be completed within a year.
