A 24-year-old construction worker, who sexually assaulted a minor girl, was arrested under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
Thenkovan of Kekkarai had reportedly lured the Class III student, who was playing in front of her house, to the terrace.
Hearing her cries for help, her parents and neighbours rescued the girl and admitted her to Government hospital in Tiruvarur. They later lodged a complaint with the Tiruvarur All Women Police.
Thenkovan who ran away from the spot, was arrested later in the day. He was remanded in judicial custody.
