While the dedicated work of the Tangedco workers in the massive exercise to restore power supply in the cyclone-affected areas has come in for widespread praise, the contribution of the workers from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh has also not gone unnoticed by the locals.
Over 22,000 workers are in the field to restore power supply in the affected districts. The neighbouring State power utilities in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh too have extended a helping hand by deputing their engineers and workers to join the restoration effort.
In many places, local youth join the hard physical labour required for the restoration of power lines. In Gandharvakottai, a team of employees of the Kerala State Electricity Board also got support from the local youth.
On Friday, State Ministers C. Vijaya Baskar, M. R.Vijayabhaskar and P. Balakrishna Reddy, appreciated the efforts of a team of 26 workers from KSEB, led by Moses Rajkumar, Superintending Engineer, who were engaged in restoring the power lines along the Pudukottai-Gandharavakottai Road braving the intermittent rain. The Ministers appreciated the team’s dedicated work. Mr. Moses said the local villagers were extending all support and hospitality to them.
Mr. Vijayabhaskar said 90% of the uprooted trees in urban areas of Pudukottai. With over 45,000 poles being uprooted in the rural areas of the district, efforts were on to restore the supply as early as possible. A majority of the affected areas in the district would be given power in a day or two, he said.
