'Kala Sangamam' to commence today

The three-day dance and music festival ‘Kala Sangamam' jointly organised by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and the Rotary Club of Tiruchi Shakthi will commence at Thevar hall today.

The festival will commence with Mangala Dhwani, when Kasim – Babu brothers, Asthana Vidhwans of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam and grand sons of late Sheik Chinna Moulana will render nagaswaram concert along with three percussion instruments – thavil, ghatam and kanjira, which is a unique combination. Maestros T. G. Muthukumarasamy (thavil), V. Suresh (ghatam) and B. S. Puruthotham (kanjira) will accompany the duo.

On Friday, Roja Kannan and troupe will present ‘Meendum Bharathiyar'. Bhaaratha Samudaayam Vaazhgavay is an attempt by four dancers belonging to three different styles to bring out the greatness of Subramaniya Bharathi's genius by giving his verses a visual dimension. The production is a tapestry of the various hues and moods and Bharathiyar's lyrics of women's liberation, patriotism, religious sentiments, forces of nature and love in the Bharatanatyam and dance theatre format.

Sriram Parasuram and Anooradha Sriram will present a very unique jugalbandhi concert where the two system of Indian classical music – Carnatic and Hindustani – play with each other to weave a most beautiful musical carpet. The fund raised will be utilised for the women development programmes, toddler's development project, both projects of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and the maintenance and creation of girl friendly toilets with amenities. ,
