Jail warder assault case: examination of witnesses begins

Examination of witnesses in the case relating to alleged assault and abuse of a jail warder in which Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam former minister K.N. Nehru and 11 others have been named as accused commenced at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here on Tuesday.

A total number of nine witnesses were examined in connection with the incident that took place in the Central Prison campus here in February 2012. Mr. Nehru and other accused appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court where the charges were framed against them in December last week.

The case was registered by the K.K. Nagar police on a complaint preferred by the Jail Warder L. Veeramani under IPC sections including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from discharging his duty).

The case was posted for next hearing on January 22. The incident took place when Mr. Nehru along with his party functionaries went to meet a former DMK MLA who was lodged in the Central Prison here.
