Innovations whipped out with a flourish

At The Hindu Group’s ‘Our State Our Taste’ cookery contest

Authentic flavours, aroma, nutritional value, display... These were among the aspects that determined the winners of The Hindu Group’s ‘Our State Our Taste’ cookery contest season-2 held in Nagapattinam on Sunday.

The atmosphere whipped up the apetite what with the delicious aroma of plenty of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes wafting through the air on the premises of Sir Isaac Newton Educational Institutions.

Both visitors and participants went back with a plethora of ideas to further infuse innovations into their daily cooking.

Chitra Thiyagarajan emerged the first-prize winner with her wide range of dishes that included arisiputtu , ulunthu halwa , mutta kola urunda , vengaiya dosa , and khaara dosa .

The first runner-up, G. Selva Rani, displayed karuvaatu kuzhambu , thengai paal , eral kuzhambu , keazh varagu murungai keerai kali , eral 65 , eral kola urandai , eral murangai keerai poriyal , and pirandai .

M. Jayashri was the second runner-up for having come up with Chinese potli , dates ladoo , green gram ladoo , potato lollipop, China grass, potato cap, masala puri , and d osai and drumstick kadala parupu kuzmabu .

Twenty students of Sir Isaac Newton Catering College took part.

One of them, Rithis Kumar, received the fourth prize as a special award for ideating four types of pazhaiya soru , and 20 side dishes, that included paruppu thuvaiyal, vadavan thuvaiyal, ellu thuvaiyal, kara mampazam, vara milaga, and karuvatu vendaikai poriyal.

The winners received certificates and prizes from Chef Damu and chief guest T. Anand, Chairman, Sir Isaac Newton Educational Institutions.

In all, about 200 participants prepared more than 300 vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

The prize-distribution ceremony was preceded by an interactive session between the participants and Chef Damu.
