Two empty double barrel guns were allegedly stolen from a locked private security office at Tiruvanaikoil here.
The burglary came to light on Sunday morning after one of the gunman of the security office residing upstairs found the main door broken open and a couple of guns stolen.
Cash amounting to Rs. 5,200 kept in the office was also reportedly stolen by the burglars. Special teams have been constituted to probe the burglary.
The private security office, with headquarters in New Delhi, was operating from a rented house at Periyar Nagar in Tiruvanaikoil area with 63 employees.
The upstairs portion was occupied by 11 gunmen. The firm provides security cover while transporting cash for refilling in ATMs of certain private banks, police sources said.
A total number of 17 single barrel and double barrel guns were kept in one of the rooms in the office. Of the 18 gunmen hired by the security agency, 11 were north Indians and remaining from Tiruchi.
On information, the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone and Commissioner of Police (in – charge) M. Ramasubramani inspected the security office and conducted inquiries.
Finger print experts inspected the crime scene. A sniffer dog was brought to the spot to track the route taken by the culprits.
Srirangam police registered a case under IPC section 457 / 380 (house break-in by night) on a complaint from the security office manager Mohana Selvakumar.
