Dumping of garbage at a ground in the MGR Rajaveethi in Annanagar near Kattur has been posing a serious health risk to residents.
A fair price shop is located near the open yard where plastic wastes, cups and polythene wastes are dumped indiscriminately.
Women members of the area who visit the ration shop complained of stinking smell as they have to wait in queues for a long time to get their ration. Najumuneesa, a cardholder, said the garbage should be cleared periodically.
Common utilityBanu, a resident of Anna Nagar, said that sanitary workers of the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation dumped the garbage collected from adjoining residential areas such as Venugopal Nagar, Tirunagar, V.S.Colony, and Sappanikoil areas in the ground. S.S.Rahmathulla, district secretary, Social Democratic Party of India, said that garbage was not cleared regularly in the area. The vacant site meant for common utility such as park and playground has turned into a dumping ground for sanitary workers, he said. M.Kumar, DMK councillor, said the civic body should immediately utilise the site for setting up a park or playground.
The ward has 112 streets and accounts for a population of 14,800. He said that sanitary workers, with their limited strength, cleared the garbage periodically.
