Grama Sabha meetings would be held in all village panchayats in the district on Friday, on the occasion of May Day. Apart from reviewing the on-going development schemes and implementation of welfare schemes, the meetings would also discuss the drinking water supply situation this summer, District Collector K.S.Palanisamy said in a press release.

Cotton auction

About 6,800 kg of cotton was traded at the weekly cotton auction at the Thuraiyur Regulated Market on Wednesday.

Farmers had brought in 230 bags of cotton, which fetched a maximum of Rs.41 a kg. The average price was Rs.38.50 a kg. The total value of the cotton traded at the auction was Rs.2.57 lakhs. The next auction at the market would be held on May 6, an official release said.
