Golden Chariot, the luxury train operated by Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), arrived in Tiruchi on Thursday afternoon as part of its run on the ‘Southern Splendour’ route.

‘Southern Splendour’, the seven-night tour that was introduced in February 2008, originates in Bangalore and covers Chennai, Mahabalipuram, Puducherry, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Trivandram, Kochi, and finally concludes in Bangalore.

The train has 18 coaches, a spa, gym, communication centre, restaurant and bar, to provide five-star comforts to its patrons.

It is equipped with 45 staff and an electrified kitchen which does not use gas, and serves continental, Chinese, south Indian, and north Indian cuisine. The tourists, who were travelling on the train, were welcomed by the representatives of the KSTDC in a traditional manner, and were taken for sightseeing in Tiruchi, according to Nithin Gupta, general manager of the train.

Around 80 per cent of the tourists were foreigners. After the completion of sightseeing, the tourists boarded the train that departed at night.
