Four persons were arrested on the charge of murdering M. Deva of Kurumbalurpalayam, belonging to Scheduled Caste, on Monday.

Deva went in separate two-wheelers to help his friend Vineeth whose vehicle had got stuck due to a snag on Sunday along with three others. Vineeth was coming with his mother. Both Vineeth and his mother left in one of the vehicles. When Deva and his friends Haridas and Muthukumar tried to start the snag-hit vehicle, a group of six to seven persons, who were consuming liquor at that time near the road, questioned them. Peran alias Ramachandran, a lorry driver, one of the group members, assaulted Deva with a log. Deva was shifted to a private hospital, then to the Government Hospital here and later to the Government Hospital in Tiruchi. He succumbed to his injuries later.
