Joint Council of Tamil Nadu Government Employees’ Organisations (JOCGEO) has decided to go on a mass casual leave on January 22 in support of its demands which include linking of 50 per cent dearness allowance with basic pay and payment of 20 per cent interim relief.
K. Balasubramanian, general secretary, All India State Government Employees Confederation, told presspersons here that the old pension scheme should be implemented rather than the new pension scheme which was a failure in many other countries.
There are 12.5 lakh employees in the State. Out of them, eight lakh are government employees and the rest are teachers. About 50 per cent in each category now were in unorganised sector as most of them did not have regular time scale, no dearness allowance. Outsourcing was now done instead of regularising the services of these employees.
