Officers of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit seized foreign currencies that were being smuggled by a Kuala Lumpur-bound passenger at the international airport here on Sunday night.

Airport sources said Ali Abbas of Chennai came to the airport to board Air Asia flight-AK 22 when AIU officials on suspicion checked his stroller bag. They found foreign currencies such as Saudi Riyal, Malaysian Ringgit, Australian Dollar, Japanese Yen, Qatar Riyal, Euro and Swiss Franc concealed in the false bottom of the stroller bag.

The passenger was detained and the foreign currencies were seized. The Indian equivalent value of the smuggled currencies was put at ₹19.82 lakh.
