Fisherfolk and farmers of various villages in Keezh Velur and Vedaranyam taluks in Nagapattinam district have resolved to strongly oppose hydrocarbon exploration in the Cauvery delta.

At a joint meeting organised under the auspices of National Fish Workers Forum at Serudhur on Saturday, they resolved to mobilise public support against the project and also fight against the project legally. Based on the decision, the meeting also adopted a resolution suggesting the formation of a Anti-Hydrocarbon Project Struggle Committee under the leadership of the Akkarapettai village, the head village for fishers of the district.
