Verbal spat between couple leads to murder of woman

A verbal spat between a couple led to the murder of the woman at their house at Thuraiyur in the early hours on Friday. Police held P. Selvam (48) on the charge of murdering his wife S. Tamizhchelvi (44).

Selvam engaged in selling snacks was said to be an alcoholic without giving money for family expenses. Tamizhchelvi was said to have scolded him for his behaviour. The couple have three daughters and two sons.

Police sources a wordy quarrel broke out between them when Tamizhchelvi asked her husband not to spend money unnecessarily and bring back one of their daughters from Coimbatore.

An enraged Selvam attacked his wife with a scissor on her chest causing grievous injury. The woman who was taken to Thuraiyur Government Hospital died on the way. The Thuraiyur police have registered a case.
