Convicts hand over customer’s ‘cash-rich’ bag found at IOC outlet

They are among 25 prisoners engaged as attendants

The honesty of two convicts, engaged as customer attendants at the Freedom fuel retail outlet exclusively run by prisoners in Pudukottai town, came in for high appreciation on Tuesday.

Pushparaj and Karthik, lodged in Pudukottai prison, are among 25 prisoners employed at the retail fuel outlet in Pudukottai Town opened by the State government with the help of Indian Oil Corporation.

A few days ago, the duo found a bag lying on the ground at the fuel outlet. The bag belonged to a motorcycle rider, who came in for a refill. They found ₹1.75 lakh cash inside the bag and immediately handed it over to the duty prison official at the retail outlet.

The Prison officials and IOC field officer identified the customer through the surveillance camera and handed over the cash to him after verifying his identity.

Appreciating the honesty of the two convicts, IOC Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager – Tiruchi Divisional Office Babu Narendra visited the outlet on Tuesday and felicitated Pushparaj and Karthik for their noble act and honesty, a release by Indian Oil Corporation said.
