Sub-Inspector of Police, Thogur Police Station, P. Anuradha who had brought laurels to the nation in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games by winning the gold medal in weightlifting, was felicitated by her colleagues here on Monday.

“Encouragement and support extended by my senior officials made it possible for me to clinch the title. When I joined the police force in the year 2016 I was told that I should have to forego my sports career in view of my profession. But the support I received from the Zone IG and other senior officials encouraged me to pursue my career in sports with renewed vigour resulting in securing the first place in the Commonwealth Games weightlifting event,” she said while accepting the warm felicitation extended to her by her colleagues in Thanjavur District Police, led by tInspector General of Police, Central Zone, Tiruchi, V. Varadaraju.

Anuradha, 26, joined the Tamil Nadu Police in 2016 after completing her post graduation in Computer Science and also obtaining a certificate in coaching from the National Institute of Sports, said Mr. Varadaraju.

Complementing the gold medal winner’s brother, Mariappan of Nemmelipatti in Pudukottai district, for extending all possible support to his sister in pursuing her ambition to reach great heights in weightlifting, Mr. Varadaraju said that lofty ideal backed up with faith and skill, pruned by hard work and perseverance would alone fetch laurels.

Felicitating the winner, Collector A. Annadurai pointed out that commendation from colleagues could not be compared with the felicitations received from other sections of the society. Stating that such a felicitation has its own value, the Collector lauded the Thanjavur District Police for organising the function which would remain in the minds of the recipient for ever.

Deputy Inspector General, Thanjavur Range, J. Loganathan, Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur district, S. S .Maheswaran were among those who participated in the function.
