Choicest of craft works beckon visitors at Poompuhar

Jewellery, seashells, terracotta products, brass lamps, bronze plates, and world-famous Thanjavur paintings, worth more than Rs.7 lakh, have been displayed at the annual craft mela organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Corporation Limited at Poompuhar showroom in Thanjavur town.

“Thanjavur paintings, bronze plates, and brass paintings were the most sought-after and we have received good response from the visitors.

Last year’s response has encouraged us to come back with more products,” said Mr.Ganeshan, manager of the exhibition. Price of the articles range between Rs.200 and Rs.18, 000.

The expo also includes products from areas such as Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Karnataka. These include wooden tools, bed sheets, white metal, clay items, and cotton saris. White metal and cotton saris ranging from Rs.25 to Rs.2,000 were a buyers’ delight.

The exhibitions continued to evoke good response and last year we earned a revenue of Rs. 3 lakh, Mr.Ganeshan said.

A discount of 15-20 per cent was offered on all products, Mr. Ganeshan said adding that the expo would continue till July 30.
