The Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TNCPCR) has embarked on the task of drafting a State Policy for Children to safeguard their rights and promote their holistic development.

The commission has constituted a State policy committee comprising experts from various fields and child rights activists to steer the process of drafting the policy.

Although the proposed State policy would have the essence of the National Child Policy 2013, it would be designed to suit the environment of Tamil Nadu with the outlook of Tamil ethnicity.

Ahead of policy drafting, the commission convened an introductory meet inviting participants from varied disciplines to ascertain their views and a prepared concept note on the Tamil Nadu State Policy for Children.

Members of the TNCPCR form part of the State policy committee which encompasses educationalists, legal experts, child rights activists, scientists, and government officials. The commission has identified eight priority areas which include survival, health, and nutrition, education and development, protection, participation, and advocacy and partnerships.

Panel will study existing laws on child rights
