An audio-visual Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV) has been introduced at the Tiruchi Railway Junction under public private partnership (PPP) mode for the benefit of passengers.

The round-the-clock maintenance of the CCTV system has been licensed to a private operator and 50 per cent of the transmission time would be utilised for screening railway-related messages, and to flash information in coordination with the existing public address system .

As part of the facility, 40 LCD monitors would be installed at various locations including platforms, concourse area and booking office. The monitors would be connected to the control room established on Platform 1. The system, put up at a cost of Rs.15 lakh, would also be utilised for screening short films on railway safety, cleanliness, security of passengers besides rail connectivity to important tourist destinations.

The facility would also provide information on arrival / departure of trains, introduction of new trains and amenities at railway station. Inaugurating the facility on Sunday, the Tiruchi DRM P.V.Vaidialingam said the system was a step towards providing information to the public.

Plans are afoot to introduce the facility at Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai, he added. Mr.Vaidialingam said a giant LED board under the PPP mode was proposed to be installed near the second entrance of the station to enable public to notice information even from a distance about arrival and departure of trains and the platforms they would arrive. He said efforts were being taken to complete the construction of a Rail Museum near Tiruchi Junction in six months time.
