The ‘green energy virumbuvom’ campaign organised by Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) and Rotary Club of Tiruchi Midtown here recently evoked overwhelming response with over 200 students from 41 schools across the district participating in various district-level competitions.
The objective of the campaign is to propagate the merits of using green energy among school students.
The students participated in drawing, elocution and essay writing competitions, which were held in two categories – category I: for students of classes VI to VIII; and category II: for students of classes IX to XI.
The school level competitions were held in about 41 schools and the winners participated in the district finals. The winners of first two places in the district level competitions were selected for the semi-finals to be held in Dindigul next month.
The winners of district-level competitions of the revenue districts falling under eight Rotary International districts will take part in the semi-finals. Similar competitions held last year attracted over four lakh students from about 750 schools, according to K. Pannirselvam, project co-ordinator, Green Energy Virumbuvom, Rotary Club of Tiruchi Midtown. A.Pugazhendi, district education officer, distributed prizes to winners at the valediction held at the Sri Vasavi Vidyalaya. S.Gopal, Rotary district elect, was the guest of honour.

Elocution: 1. E. Sherlin Pushpam (St. Joseph's Anglo Indian Girls HSS), 2. J. Afreen Jailani (Samad Senior Secondary School).
