Steps taken for completion of drainage work

The district administration has taken all steps for the expeditious execution of the underground drainage scheme in Pudukottai town, said A. Suganthi, Collector.

Speaking at a function to mark Pongal celebrations organised jointly by the Pudukottai district Tiruvarul Peravai; District Chamber of Commerce and the Pudukottai Rotary Club here on Thursday, the Collector referred to the demand made by speakers in this regard and said that the work on the underground drainage is progressing at a fast pace.

Earlier, three individuals A. R. Noor Mohamad, honorary president of the peravai; Durai Divyanathan, former municipal chairman; and K. Ramaiah, president of senior citizens association; were honoured with the title ‘manitha neya maanbalar'. A citation presented on the occasion referred to their services for the welfare of the society.

The district chamber of commerce donated Rs. 1 lakh for the purchase of a boat towards tourism development at Sithannavasal. The chamber also donated Rs. 50,000 for setting up a pathway for the benefit of walkers at Pudhukulam in the town. A total of 24 group-chairs for visitors at the Ranee's Government Maternity Hospital and three sewing machines for the Borstal school were also donated.

Ten farmers were honoured with Pongal gift to mark the celebrations.

M. S. Muthusamy, Superintendent of Police; S. P. Muthu, president of Rotary Club of Pudukottai; Seenu.Chinnappa, president of the chamber of commerce; and R.Sampathkumar, president of the peravai were among those who spoke.
