The Tamil Nadu Retired College Teachers’ Association has expressed disappointment over “government inaction” in sanctioning pension revision to retired college teachers, particularly those retired after putting in service in aided college teachers.
At a meeting of its governing body here on Sunday, the association appealed to the government to take into consideration the precarious situation of the affected retirees in right earnest and respond promptly.
Association president D. Thomas pointed out that teachers who had retired before 1986 and in the duration of 1986-89 were denied their legitimate pension since they did not have the designation of Lecturer-Selection Grade.
The meeting noted with concern the refusal of the Government to appropriately address the appeal of individual teachers for pension revision. The extent of pension the Government has accepted to pay to these teachers was lesser than they were presently receiving. The government stand was unreasonable. The association was so sore over the fate of these octogenarians, Prof. Thomas said.
Taking a serious view of the inaction of the sub-treasuries in Coimbatore and Tirunelveli in not fixing the pension revision, Prof. Thomas said the retirees felt exhausted over their plight of making innumerable representations for getting a matter of right fulfilled.
The association state executive committee will meet on August 27 to review the situation and take further steps on follow-up measures, Prof. Thomas said.
Earlier, the association treasurer B. Seetharaman presented the audited annual accounts in the presence of the general secretary E.P. Perumal and the rest of the office-bearers.
