Drivers of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) were given tips on precautionary measures to be adopted while crossing manned and unmanned level crossings, during a seminar held here on Tuesday.
The seminar was conducted jointly by the TNSTC (Kumbakonam) Limited and the Tiruchi Railway Division in connection with the Road Safety Week celebration for the benefit of the drivers at the Dheeran Nagar depot of the Corporation.
Level crossings
R.Subbian, Senior Divisional Safety Officer, Tiruchi Railway Division, explained various steps taken by the Railway to check the accidents at level crossings.
Signboards had been displayed near level crossings and drivers should follow the rules strictly, he said.
Thanks to awareness programmes organised regularly for the welfare of various sections of society, accident rate has come down considerably , Mr.Subbian said. V.Varadarajan, Deputy Manager, Technical and Training, TNSTC (Kumbakonam) Ltd, spoke on the role played by bus crew in ensuring the safety of passengers. Joint programmes of this kind would go a long way in reducing the number of accidents, he said.
P.Sundaram, Divisional Manager, Mofussil, TNSTC (Kumbakonam) Ltd, presided over the seminar.
Power point presentation
The bus crew, through a power point presentation, were explained, as to how even minor distractions could lead to accidents at level crossings.
Mr.Sundaram at the end of the programme administered oath to drivers that they will strictly follow road rules and will take all precautionary measures for the safety of passengers. Over 100 drivers participated in the seminar. An interactive session was held at the end.
