Election officials should be wary of the location of sensitive booths as part of their responsibility in ensuring free and fair election, said the election observer (general) Chander Shekar Talwar.
Addressing zonal officials at a training programme held here on Friday, Mr. Talwar said that the officials should, while obtaining the map for their zones, ascertain the location of sensitive booths in their jurisdiction. He asked them to be fully aware of the operation of the electronic voting machine and be prepared for taking immediate remedial action in case of any technical snags.
He advised the officials to ensure that basic amenities especially drinking water, toilet and power supply were available at the polling booths. Zonal officials, in the presence of polling agents of political parties and independents, should also ensure that the EVMs were in tact by test performance. The percentage of polling should also be reported every two hours.
The police observer Rajkumar Dewangan said that the paramilitary personnel would be deployed at 221 polling stations in Perambalur and Kunnam Assembly segments. He advised the zonal officials to be aware of the mobile phone numbers of the police personnel.
Collector and District election officer, M. Vijayakumar, said that a total of 2,597 officials would be deployed for election duty. The district accounted for a total of 51 zones – 25 zones in Perambalur Assembly segment and 26 in Ariyalur Assembly segment
