Distribution of free uniforms and serving of special breakfast marked the celebration of Education Development Day in connection with the birth anniversary of late chief minister Kamaraj at the Seva Sangam Thanjammal Elementary School on Thursday.
The chief guest V. Srinivasan, Assistant Station Director, All India Radio, Tiruchi, and Rathnakumar, the proprietor of Ramyas Hotel served sweet ‘pongal' to about 400 children. In his address, Mr. Srinivasan advised students to develop the healthy habit of listening to useful radio programmes. The free noon meal scheme introduced by the late chief minister Kamaraj, had enabled the economically backward sections to realise the importance of education. Mr. Ratnakumar distributed free uniforms and notebooks to 100 students. Assistant elementary educational officer of Tiruchi west M. Ayyasamy; school headmistress R. Visalakshi, and senior lecturer of District Institute of Education and Training S. Sivakumar were also present.
