The State unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has condemned the Pattukottai Municipality for demolishing the martyrs' memorials of the Communist Party of India workers in the town without any prior notice. In a statement here on Thursday, State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said three Communist Party workers were allegedly killed and cremated by the then State government in 1950 when they agitated against hegemonic forces. Memorials were raised in the town in memory of those workers and the CPI(M) used to pay homage at the memorial every year. The local municipality demolished the memorials without prior notice. The party appealed to the government to reconstruct the memorials again.
The State unit of the party also appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and fully restore a road used by Dalit families in S.S.Colony, Madurai. Mr. Ramakrishnan said the Dalit families in Ambedkar Nagar and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar were using the 18 ft road in their area for over 30 years. Suddenly some elements blocked the road with the alleged connivance of some officials.
