AIADMK members staged a demonstration near the fish market at Anaikarai, near Kumbakonam on Sunday condemning the State Government for not taking steps to build a new bridge across Kollidam at Anaikarai.

The existing bridge has outlived its utility. Only light vehicles are allowed on the bridge. AIADMK cadres demanded that a temporary bridge to facilitate movement of heavy vehicles should be built at Anaikarai.

Chennai bound buses from Kumbakonam are now going via Mayilathurai, Sirkali and Chidambaram. Durai Govindarajan, State agriculture wing secretary of AIADMK led the agitation.

O.S. Manian M.P., MLAs Durai Kannu, Bharathi Mohan, Ilamathi Subramanyam and former MLA Ramanathan took part .
