Just four days are to go for the commencement of the filing of nominations – the first process towards Assembly elections in the State.

But the election euphoria is yet to pick up, thanks to the delay in the finalisation of the alliance, identification of seats and candidates in both the leading DMK and AIADMK fronts.

The Bharathiya Janatha Party (BJP) put an end to the lull in the election scenario with its party candidate for the Tiruchi East Assembly constituency, P. Parthiban commencing his campaign in the city on Monday. BJP became the first party in the district to commence the campaigning.

Mr.Parthiban, accompanied by the party leaders and cadre, commenced the campaign after participating in special ‘abishekam', ‘archanai' and ‘pooja' at the Rockfort Sri Manicka Vinayagar Temple in the morning to invoke the Lord's blessings. Later he visited various areas in the constituency and started wooing the voters.

Mr.Parthiban is in the electoral fray for the second consecutive time. He contested from Srirangam Assembly segment in the 2006 Assembly elections.

The BJP has announced candidates for four constituencies in the district. The party has fielded M.Subramaniam, national general council member of the party, in the Manachanallur segment, M.S.Logidasan in Lalgudi seat and S.P.Rajendran in the Musiri seat.

Both the DMK and AIADMK are yet to commence campaigning due to delay in finalisation of constituencies and candidates.
