50 suspects interrogated in Army Major murder case

Special teams constituted to probe the murder of Army Major R. Ramesh at Mukkombu near here last week have so far interrogated 50 suspects in the age group 18-22 and were in the process of gathering more clues to apprehend the real culprit, the Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi Rural, A. Kaliyamurthy, said on Friday.

The investigators have also interrogated over 30 ex-convicts involved in chain snatching cases as part of their enquiry into the murder case, Mr. Kaliyamurthy told reporters here.

Answering queries regarding the progress made so far in the case, the SP said the teams had visited 40 villages seeking information about the killer said to be between 19 and 25 years, with the help of a computer portrait that was developed with inputs provided by victim’s wife Anuradha.

Major Ramesh, a doctor in the Army, was murdered by the armed assailant while attempting to pin down the latter who tried to snatch the gold chain worn by Anuradha at Mukkombu, a tourist spot.

The only tangible clues in possession of the investigators are the shirt said to be worn by the killer and the computer portrait.

As part of the probe, the Army officer’s wife was shown photographs of some suspects but that did not yield anything concrete for the investigators.

The special teams had recovered bus tickets from the shirt of the killer and had enquired the bus drivers, conductors besides some passengers, Mr. Kaliyamurthy said.
