On Wednesday, a team led by the District Medical Officer conducted checks at restaurants on the Technopark campus to collect water samples after more than a hundred people in the area were affected by food poisoning.

“We have collected water samples from restaurants. On Tuesday, we collected faecal samples from two affected by diarrhoea. We can ascertain the real reason for the food poisoning cases only after testing the samples,” said P.P. Preetha, District Medical Officer.

On Wednesday, the health wing of the Corporation conducted checks in the food courts at Technopark, and seized stale food.

Days-old rice

“We found rice prepared days before being kept to be served again. Chapatti is prepared and stored in the fridge for days. Seventeen eateries were inspected and stale food was seized from half of them. Notices have been served to them,” said Health Inspector Ajith.

The Technopark authorities have handed over a list of companies which are supplying water cans in the food courts and companies here.

No new cases of food poisoning were reported on Wednesday. But, Rajeev Krishnan of Prathidhwani, an organisation of IT employees, said the number of those affected by food poisoning was more than 200, as quite a few cases went unreported initially.
