Vizhinjam project will be made a reality: Chandy

May 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The United Democratic Front (UDF) government will make the Vizhinjam International Multi-Purpose Seaport project a reality, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

Vizhinjam would have been developed into an international port 25 years ago had it not been in Kerala, the Chief Minister said in a Facebook post.

There was no point in worrying over lost time and the question was how to proceed. Mr. Chandy said this was his second opportunity to make the project a reality.

During the 2004-06 tenure as Chief Minister, Mr. Chandy said he had completed the formalities set in motion by A.K. Antony. Time was sought for laying the foundation stone for the project and it did not materialise due to the participation of a Chinese company in the bidding.

The present government’s four-year effort to get the project going had reached the final phase. The government was resolved not to miss this opportunity, Mr. Chandy said.
