Validity of PSC rank list to be extended

June 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to request the Public Service Commission to extend the validity of the rank list expiring on July 31 by six months.

A list of eight persons forwarded by the Registrar of the High Court for being appointed as district judges was also approved and would be forwarded to the Governor, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told mediapersons.

The Cabinet also gave its nod for providing 10 acres at the Puzhakkal Industries Centre in Thrissur for the proposed mobility hub. The memorandum of understanding and rules and regulations for the proposed ‘below sea-level farming research institute’ at Kuttanad was also approved.

A sum of Rs.18.65 crore will be given as working capital for spinning mills in the public and cooperative sectors. The newly sanctioned kendriya vidyalaya at Kaduthurthy will be provided eight acres on a 99-year lease. Till the buildings come up, the kendriya vidyalaya will function from the HNL building. A sum of Rs. 75 lakh was sanctioned for sprucing up the building.

A maintenance grant of Rs.17.5 crore will be given to private school managements soon by the government. Managements have been given the nod to post teachers on daily wages when teachers take leave for three to four months and can post special teachers in schools having 500 or more students.

In schools having less than 500 students, two to three schools will be clubbed together and special teachers will be provided from the teacher’s bank. Mr. Chandy said the package for teachers would be taken up at the next Cabinet.

Light Metro

On the delay in giving Cabinet nod for the Light Metro project in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, the Chief Minister said it was due to the code of conduct in force due to the Aruvikkara by-election. “Unlike Vizhinjam, it is a new project. We are positive and it will be cleared after the by-election,” he said.

On the Sabari rail project, the Chief Minister said the State wanted Railways to execute it using its own funds as it was a sanctioned old project.

“Railways are insisting on cost-sharing and we have taken up the issue with the Prime Minister,” he added.
