The city police have rolled back traffic regulation imposed on a trial basis to decongest Jagathy junction following protests.
The protesters, including members of the public and representatives of political parties, alleged that the regulations were unscientific.
While one-way traffic was introduced from Jagathy to Vazhuthcaud, vehicles heading from Vazhuthcaud to Jagathy were diverted via Cotton Hill, Edapazhanji and Jagathy while those towards Kattakada took the Pangode-Thirumala road. This meant that no buses plied on the Jagathy-Poojappura road, inviting the ire of people going to the office of the Director of Public Instruction (DPI), schools, banks, government offices, and hospitals in the area. Those heading to Poojappura had to get off at Thirumala and take an auto from there.
The regulation, moreover, increased the congestion on the Cotton Hill stretch, which is already groaning under heavy vehicle flow.
The protesters staged a sit-in on the road at DPI on Thursday demanding that the restrictions be revoked. The protest was called off only after assurances from Traffic officials.
