Four categories of races to help rebuild post-deluge Kerala

The Trivandrum Marathon on Saturday will centre around the theme ‘Run for Kerala – Run to Rebuild.’

Minister for Sports E.P. Jayarajan will flag off a 2-km ‘Family Fun Run’ on the Manaveeyam Veedhi here at 8 p.m. The other categories are full marathon (42.19 km), half marathon (21.09 km), and a 10-km road race. Southern Air Command Air Vice Marshal B. Chandrasekhar will flag off the road race at midnight.

The prize money totals ₹10 lakh — the winner of the full marathon will get ₹1 lakh, that of the half marathon ₹50,000, and of the 10-km road race, ₹20,000. Separate competitions will be held for men and women.

To participate in the events, one has to make contributions to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF).

Vehicle-free

Traffic diversions will be put in place for the marathon. From 7.45 p.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday, traffic will not be allowed from Keltron Junction till the Corporation.

Traffic will not be allowed on the eastern track of the road from Corporation to Ayurveda College from 11 p.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday. Vehicles from MC Road and the National Highway towards Thampanoor should take the Pattom, Kowdiar, Thycaud route. Vehicles from East Fort towards MC Road and the NH should use the western track of MG Road. Vehicles from Thampanoor to MC Road and National Highway should take the Bakery Junction, Underpass, route.
