‘Temple a symbol of cultural heritage'

December 01, 2011 12:17 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 05:11 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday inaugurated the second phase of the Rs.25-crore security scheme for Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple by commissioning its security surveillance camera network.

Keltron's Security Systems Group installed the 58 cameras, including those with night-vision capabilities and infrared vision, which provided comprehensive and real-time coverage of the temple precincts.

At least seven cameras provided an overhead view of the heritage locality. A highly secure fibre-optic cable linked the cameras to the dedicated police control room established recently to provide security to the temple and its rare treasures. Mr. Chandy said the landmark temple was a symbol of the cultural heritage of Kerala.

He said thestance of his government was that the treasures should be protected within the temple walls. Uthradam Tirunal Marthanda Varma, head of royal family of erstwhile Travancore, said the government scheme had all his blessings.
