S. Somanath assumed charge as Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) at Valiamala, near here, on Monday. Mr. Somanath joined the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre as a scientist in 1985. Prior to this, he has held various positions, including Project Manager, PSLV; and Deputy Director for Structures Entity/Propulsion and Space Ordnance Entity. He is also the recipient of the Space Gold Medal from the Astronomical Society of India, a press note issued here said. — Special Correspondent
