The government is enlisting the services of student police cadet corps to broad-base the digital literacy drive among citizens. As many as 40,000 Student Police Cadets in nearly 400 schools will be involved in the drive, under a campaign formulated by the Kerala State IT Mission.

The pilot project will be implemented in Thiruvananthapuram. Cadets from 10 schools will be given tablets equipped with Android-based digital literacy software developed by KSITM through Keltron. The cadets will be trained to impart lessons in using Internet besides e-governance and information security. At the end of the pilot phase, 10,000 citizens are expected to be equipped to send and receive mails, access online government services and do online shopping.
