A group of protesters laid siege to the District Collectorate on Tuesday against the move to evict residents along the banks of the Parvathy Puthanar for the development of the national waterway from Kovalam to Kollam.

According to Valikkonam-based Janasakthi Action Council, which conducted the protest, 396 families in the Kadinamkulam and Menamkulam villages are under threat of eviction for development of the waterway. Most of them belonged to the fishing community.
