Steps to protect Varkala Cliff

January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The district administration has decided to initiate steps to protect the Varkala Cliff from illegal constructions and to prevent polluted water from flowing into the Papanasam area. A meeting chaired by District Collector Biju Prabhakar here on Saturday entrusted the Varkala tahsildar to demarcate the cliff area and to identify those engaged in constructions within 100 metres of the cliff. The municipality was not to give permission to any construction that did not have the clearance of the district administration or the Environment Department. Any project that violated the norms of the Coastal Regulatory Zone too would be identified and the permit revoked.
