State TV awards declared

Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Nilavum Nakshatrangalum’ was adjudged the best serial at the Kerala State TV awards here on Tuesday.

The awards were declared by Minister for Culture A.K. Balan.

‘Andhakadahathile Oru Pappadam’ and ‘Balante Gramam’ were adjudged the best telefilms.

G.R. Indugopan was adjudged the best scriptwriter and Madhupal the best director for Kaligandhaki. Krishnan Balakrishnan was the best actor, and Amala Gireeshan the best actress. Vijay Menon and Gowri Krishnan were selected second best actor and actress.

Jagat Narayanan and Janaki Narayanan were named best child actors.

Noushad Sherif was named the best cameraman and Tony Melukav best editor. N. Harikumar got the award for best sound recording, and Ajith Krishna best art director.

Kallara Gopan was adjudged the best music director.

‘Sword of Liberty’ directed by Shiny Jacob Benjamim won the award for the best documentary. Nisha Purushothaman was named the best news anchor.

The award for the best articles went to Salin Mankuzhy and T.K. Santhosh Kumar.

Culture Secretary Rani George, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy chairperson Kamal and secretary Mahesh Panju were present.

The award jury has recommended an increase in the prize money. Though television has reached 90% of the households in the State, it does not get the same importance as cinema does, the jury opined. The government should set up a television academy to take up activities related to television, it said.
