Stage set for yoga day fete

First International Day of Yoga today

Kerala will join rest of the world in celebrating the first International Day of Yoga on Sunday. Several institutions and organisations have made arrangements for yoga sessions, seminars, and training camps.

Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson is scheduled to inaugurate the State-level celebrations at the Central stadium here at 7.45 a.m. Health and Family Welfare Secretary K. Elangovan and AYUSH Secretary M. Beena will participate.

A free yoga training session and screening of a documentary on yoga will follow. Governor P. Sathasivam will join the staff of Raj Bhavan in a one-hour yoga session from 7 a.m. as part of the celebrations.

A yoga session will also be held at the Durbar Hall, Secretariat.

State Police Chief T.P. Senkumar will inaugurate a yoga training session for police personnel and their families at the Chandrasekharan Nair stadium from 6.45 a.m.

About 3,000 people, including Army personnel, NCC cadets, students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, and Army Public School will participate in a mass yoga session at the Colachal stadium at the military station, Pangode, from 7 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. Brigadier Samir Salunke, Station Commander, Pangode military station, will lead the event.

As many as 55,000 NCC cadets are expected to participate in the programmes organised by the NCC directorate at 72 venues across the State.
