: In connection with the ongoing ‘Railyatri Upbhokta Pakhwada,’ the Thiruvananthapuram railway division has implemented a ‘Special Onboard Housekeeping Services’ (OBHS) on select trains.

The OBHS is carried out on trains from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. everyday, according to Railways. Seven groups with three men in each group are engaged in the OBHS activities on various trains.

An average of 13 daily trains and 4 weekly trains have been covered under the scheme daily, according to Railways. Toilet cleaning and spraying disinfectant and deodorant, wash basin cleaning, garbage collection in air-conditioned coaches and disposal are taken up.

The Special OBHS was introduced on experimental basis and had come in for praise by rail users and the officers who went on on-board inspection. The passengers have suggested making the OBHS a permanent mechanism.
