The mandatory Social Impact Assessment (SIA) study for the 443-m flyover proposed at Uloor junction on the National Highway 66-Medical College Road corridor commenced on Tuesday.

The suvey team visited 40 shops of the total 124 in the 0.6 hectares of land demarcated to be acquired for the flyover. The SIA study, mandated by the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, has been entrusted by the district administration to the city-based Institution of Rural Development (IRD). The IRD team is led by Chempazanthy Soman, retired Deputy Tahsildar, and has Sajeesh and Girija Devi. From the district administration, Tahsildar, Land Acquisition, Appu, and surveyor Sunil Kumar will oversee the survey work.

Physical demarcation of the 0.6 hectares of land needed for the flyover was completed by Kerala Rapid Transit Corporation Ltd. (KRTL), Special Purpose Vehicle set up to execute the proposed Light Metro in the State capital and Kozhikode.

The 443-m two-lane Ulloor flyover will begin from near the petrol pump after Kochulloor on NH 66 and end near the city Corporation’s Rest House on Medical College Road.

The survey began from near the Rest House where the team visited the premises to collect details about the property, extent of land and ownership. The remaining will be covered by Friday, according to IRD Director C. Balachandran. This will be followed by verification of the documents of those who own property in the 0.6 hectares and public hearing. The IRD has been directed by the district administration to submit the report within three months.
