The city, which was relatively less affected by the floods, acted as the hub of relief material collection to be supplied to other districts, where the authorities are still involved in rescue operations. The city witnessed an outpouring of generosity as individuals and various groups queued up at the various collection centres with food, medicines, clothes, and other essential items, to be supplied to those affected by the floods in various districts.
The district administration on Friday sent 10 loads of essential materials to the flood-hit areas of Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts. This includes food and other essential materials which were collected from the public, institutions, and voluntary organisations at the collection centres and the material brought in by the Air Force for distribution.
On Thursday, the collection centres operated at the Government Women’s College and the Priyadarshini Hall. The collection centre at Priyadarshini hall was shifted to SMV School on Friday morning.
The materials that were collected at the Priyadarshini hall were transported in two trucks to Pathanamthitta. Medicines, bedsheets, children’s clothes, mosquito coils, towels, snacks, rice, fruits, salt, milk powder, and other materials were part of the consignment.
