The State Election Commission (SEC) has disqualified six members of Nellaya grama panchayat in Palakkad for failing to conduct the grama sabha meetings as per the provisions of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act.

An order issued by Commissioner K. Sasidharan Nair on Thursday said panchayat members Sakir Hussain, Marikkar Moulavi, A. Moideen Kutty, K. Reihinath, V.P. Mohammed Ibrahim and N. Janardhanan were disqualified on the basis of the complaints filed by voters of the panchayat. Grama sabha meetings should be conducted once in three months. On failing to comply with this norm three times, there are provisions to disqualify such members.

The draw of lots for finalising the reservation wards for various categories in district panchayats will be held at the respective Collectorates at 10 a.m. on October 3, the commission has informed.
