Schemes for women and children with special needs

The Department of Social Justice has formulated schemes for women and children with special needs.

Administrative sanction of Rs.1.61 crore has been given for these schemes, a press note here said.

A sum of Rs.44.84 lakh has been set aside for setting up dementia care centres in Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram.

One scheme relates to the care received by the mentally challenged in their own homes.

Under this scheme, Rs. 750 will be paid per month to the family member primarily responsible for the care of the mentally challenged person.

Family income

To qualify for this scheme, the annual family income of the family should not exceed Rs.1 lakh.

This year, 500 people would benefit from the scheme and Rs.3.75 lakh has been earmarked for this, the press note said.

Another scheme relates to the care of visually challenged women who give birth. As per the scheme, which provides for the complete care of the mother for the first two years after giving birth, Rs.2,000 a month will be provided to such mothers. This year, Rs. 40 lakh will be given to 200 beneficiaries.

A sum of Rs.55.96 lakh will be given to Pallium India for rehabilitation of stroke victims.

A sum of Rs. 8.45 lakh has been earmarked as administrative expenses for the Rs.42.45-lakh scheme to rehabilitate children with autism spectrum disorder, it added.
