Repeal decision to shift lecturers: Kodiyeri

June 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

CPI(M) State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has urged the government to drop the decision to transfer 15 lecturers who protested against the decision to grant autonomy to Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam.

Mr. Balakrishnan said in a statement here on Monday that academics and the public had raised a protest against the decision to grant autonomy to the college and deny a chance for the indigent to pursue their studies there. The decision to transfer the lecturers amounted to retaliation to the protest, he said.

The college had moulded many notable personalities in different sectors.

Rather than denying the right for the poor to study in the college, the government should withdraw its decision to grant autonomy and transfer the lecturers, Mr. Balakrishnan said.
