The Reading Week programme, observed in connection with the death anniversary of activist P.N. Panicker, concluded on Thursday in the city. Additional Director General of Police (Battalion) B. Sandhya inaugurated the valedictory function held at Government Lower Primary School, Cotton Hill.

In her inaugural address, Ms. Sandhya said that reading habit would help a person reach heights of excellence. Libraries were a treasure trove of thinking of great minds. Children should use the library to grow up in life.

She also distributed prizes to winners of various competitions held as part of Reading Week.

Quizmaster G.S. Pradeep said the youth had to develop the habit of reading books to gain knowledge. It would also help children to become good human beings.

The valedictory function got off to a colourful start with a poetry recital session involving 75 students. The children also rendered folk songs.
